Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., July 1 – July 6th, 2019, held the largest
2019 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Taekwondo
National Championships, since 2004.
In order to qualify in this competition, students must compete in the state qualifier first.
Only the top 8 can qualify to compete against the best in the United States at the National
Championships. This competitive event consists of; Poomsae, Board Breaking, Point
Sparring and Olympic sparring.
Four students from Ultimate Champions Taekwondo, under Master Michael Ro, earned
Gold medals at this elite level competition.
Gold Medal Winners
George Chen: Male 18-32, Black Belt Poomsae division and for,
Male 18-32, Black Belt Olympic Sparring Fly Weight division.
Priscilla Pan: Female 15-17, Black Belt Olympic Sparring Welter weight division.
Cory Dong: Female 12-14, Black Belt Poomsae division.
Sunnie Pan: Female 10-11, Black Belt Poomsae division and for the
Female 10-11, Black Belt Olympic Sparring Light Weight division.
Sunnie Pan also earned a spot on the 2020 AAU National Team.
Only a winner of a Gold Medal
in the 10-11 Black Belt division
receives an instant spot on the
National Team, congratulations
to Sunnie Pan.
All top 4 athletes in their sparring
division will be competing for a
spot on the 2020 AAU National
Team from August 1st to August
3rd at Greensboro, North
Carolina.
These positive students maintain
good grades, volunteer for charity,
help in their communities and still
have time to train hard to make
amazing results like this.
