Queens gets the July 4 festivities
Th e World’s Borough hosted
early celebrations of
Independence Day last week
with two spectacular fi reworks
displays in Astoria and Bayside.
Despite rainy weather, hundreds
came out to the Fort
Totten parade grounds on June
27 for a pyrotechnic display
hosted by the Bayside Historical
Society. A concert featuring an
array of musical acts preceded
the fi reworks extravaganza that
delighted attendees.
Th e next night, June 28,
the Central Astoria Local
Development Corporation
held its annual Independence
Day fi reworks show. Th ousands
gathered on the Astoria Park
Great Lawn to marvel at the
rockets red glare and bombs
bursting in the air above the
Astoria waterfront between
the Hell Gate Bridge and the
Triborough Bridge.
