Gunman sought for doubleshooting
in Jamaica
A shooter remains at large aft er he and
his accomplice opened fi red at two people
on a Jamaica street.
According to police, at 3:35 a.m. on June
23, a 27-year-old man and a 20-year-old
man were shot multiple times about their
bodies by two suspects outside of 95-35
Sutphin Blvd. Th e 27-year-old was shot to
his hip, groin and arm and the 20-year-old
was shot in the arm.
At this time, it is not known what the
motive behind the shooting was, however,
sources familiar with the investigation said
that it doesn’t appear to be gang-related.
Paramedics responded to the scene and
brought the victims to Jamaica Hospital in
stable condition.
Th e shooters were last seen fl eeing
the scene southbound on Sutphin
Boulevard toward 97th Avenue, police
said. Following an investigation, offi cers
arrested Cecilio Matute, 18, in connection
to the shooting; he is being held on
attempted murder charges.
Th e second suspect remains at large.
Police described him as a 20-year-old
Hispanic man with black hair, standing 5
feet, 8 inches and weighing 150 pounds.
He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt
and gray sweatpants.

walked out of a Flushing business with
thousands of dollars in stolen jewelry on
the aft ernoon of Wednesday, June 27.
On June 27 at around 1:15 p.m., two
unidentifi ed suspects entered Flushing
Jewelry and Pawn at 41-12A Main St.
and forcibly opened a display case, law
enforcement sources said.
Th e trio then removed 12 yellow gold
chain necklaces and one gold chain pendant
with a half carat diamond and fl ed
the scene on foot in an unknown direction.
Police estimated that the goods were
valued at about $30,000.
Th e incident was reported to the 109th
Precinct. On its Twitter page on the night
of June 27, the precinct posted a wanted
fl ier that included images of the crooks.
Police described the perpetrators as two
white or Hispanic men. In surveillance
footage, the fi rst man was seen wearing a
polo shirt that says “GERMANY,” a New
York Yankees cap and sunglasses. Th e
second man wore a white polo shirt and
black baseball cap.

Unidentifi ed man found
dead on park bench
Cops are looking to into the death of
a man who was found lying on a bench
at a playground in Elmhurst early on the
morning of Monday, July 2.
According to police, at 6:08 a.m. on
July 2, offi cers from the 110th Precinct
responded to a 911 call regarding an
unconscious man at Moore Homestead
Playground, in the area of 82nd Street and
Broadway.
Upon their arrival, cops found an
unidentifi ed man lying face down on a
bench, unconscious and unresponsive,
with no obvious signs of trauma.
EMS responded to the location and
pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Sources familiar with the case said that the
victim may have suff ered a medical episode
and did not have any clear signs of
overdosing, however the medical examiner
will determine the cause of death.
Th ere was also no indication that the
victim was homeless, authorities said.
Th e investigation is ongoing.
L.I. cop helps Bayside dog
owner and her pets
A Nassau County cop’s act of kindness
helped a Bayside woman and her
two dogs stay safe from the heat aft er
her car broke down on the morning of
Sunday, July 1.
According to police, at 11:45 a.m. on
July 1, Police Offi cer Nicholas Accardi
responded to a radio call to assist a
motorist with a disabled
vehicle on the Atlantic
Beach Bridge. Upon his
arrival, Accardi found

standing outside of her
BMW 530, which was
parked on the side of
the road, with her two
12-year-old dogs on
leashes.
Accardi parked behind
her vehicle and turned
on his emergency lights
for her safety. As he
approached Silke, he
noticed that her dogs, a
cream-colored mini goldendoodle
named Molly
and an apricot-colored
mini goldendoodle named Maggie,
were showing signs of distress from the
extreme heat.
Springing into action, Accardi off ered
to let Silke and the dogs sit in his patrol
car with the air conditioning on. Once
inside, the dogs began to respond to the
cooler temperature.
Within the hour, Silke’s car was fi xed
and she and the dogs went on their way.
Knifepoint robberies at LIC &
Jackson Hts. subway stops
Detectives need the public’s help in
fi nding a man and woman connected to
two recent knifepoint robberies at train
stations in Long Island City and Jackson
Heights.
Th e fi rst caper, police said, occurred
at 9:30 p.m. on June 18 at the turnstiles
of the Court Square station, near the
entrance to the G line.
According to law enforcement
sources, the 29-year-old male victim
was approached at the location by the
thieves, who asked him for a MetroCard
swipe. Th ey then displayed a knife and
removed $140 from his pockets. Aft er
taking the cash, they fl ed the scene in an
unknown direction.
Four days later, authorities said, the
suspects confronted a 30-year-old man
as he was exiting from the 74th Street-
Broadway station at the corner of 77th
Street and Broadway at about 8:40 p.m.
on June 22.
Police said the bandits blocked the
victim on the staircase, then displayed
a knife. Th e crooks removed the man’s
wallet — which contained $2 in cash,
credit cards and identifi cation — then
fl ed the scene along 74th Street.
On June 27, the NYPD released video
footage of the two perpetrators. One of
the suspects is a black man who wore a
white T-shirt and gray sweatpants. His
partner in crime is described as a black
woman standing 5 feet, 5 inches tall who
was last seen wearing a white tank top
and tight black pants, while carrying a
black bag.
