A Queens chain serving up Latin-
American hand pies has opened up its
storefront Bayside.
Th e long-awaited Empanada Spot location
in the Bayside Hills section of the
neighborhood at 61-09 Springfi eld Blvd.
is now operational. Part of the Mama’s
Empanadas chain, the eatery replaced
Fresco Pizzeria and Restaurant on the
commercial strip.
Th e menu — where items are mainly
priced at $2 or less a piece — features
wheat and corn fl our empanadas.
Customers can go for the more traditional
take on the hand pies with cheese, chicken
or beef or order from more unique
options, including pepperoni pizza,
cheeseburger and macaroni and cheese.
Breakfast and dessert empanadas, corn
cake sandwiches and side dishes such as
sweet plantains and fried cassava are also
available to order.
Th e store, which opened in late April,
initially took orders by phone. However,
due to high demand, locals interested in
satisfying their empanada cravings must
currently go into the store to place their
orders. Customers can either take their
orders to go or sit at limited booth seating
at the back of the location.
Mama’s, an established Queens chain,
already operates two locations in Jackson
Heights.
Th e storefront is fl anked by S & K
Accounting Corp. and Springfield
Barbershop. Th e store can be reached at
718-224-2209.
