AN OPEN LETTER TO ALL NEW YORK CITY NEIGHBORHOODS
THIS CAN HAPPEN TO YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD TOO!
THE CITY HAS GONE TOO FAR!
The city is about to open a homeless shelter within 150 feet from a 1,000 student high school.
This must be stopped. Can you imagine, the city hasn’t gone through the necessary safety checks to
insure there is no negative impact on our neighborhood, and for sure the city failed to protect the kids
going to this high school.
STOP IT NOW!
Mayor De Blasio plans to open ninety (90) more shelters all across the city, and more than likely, also
without the necessary safety checks to protect all of New York City’s neighborhoods, and schools. If it
can happen in Ozone Park, it can happen in any other neighborhood too.
STOP IT NOW!
Only 12 years ago, the City invested $40,000,000 in building a state of the art school, the High School
For Construction Trades, Engineering and Architecture (HSCTEA). The City is now knowingly putting
it's investment at risk, because City officials knew full well the homeless shelter property is located
only 150 feet from the school property. Would any parent send a child to a school located so close to
homeless shelter, knowing that homeless shelters attract sex offenders and drug addicts who know
how to hide their identity even during a vetting process. Of course not, and that is why the City knowingly
put a $40,000,000 state of the art high school a risk.
STOP IT NOW!
THIS HOMELESS SHELTER HAS BEEN THE SUBJECT OF A LAW SUIT BROUGHT AGAINST THE CITY OF
NEW YORK BY SEVERAL OF THE RESIDENTS OF THE OZONE PARK, QUEENS COMMUNITY FOR THE
PAST YEAR, WITH THE QUEENS SUPREME COURT INITIALLY REJECTED THE RESIDENTS.
HOWEVER THERE IS AN APPEAL REMAINING, WHICH IS WHY WE ARE ASKING FOR HELP FROM ALL
CITY RESIDENTS.
STOP IT NOW!
The homeless shelter will be located at 100-32 Atlantic Avenue. It will have a serious negative effect
on the Ozone Park, Richmond Hill and Woodhaven communities, and put at risk the well-being, and
the lives of 1000 innocent children.
THE MAYOR CAN’T MOVE SCHOOLS, NOR CAN
THE MAYOR MOVE NEIGHBORHOODS, BUT THE
MAYOR SURE CAN MOVE A HOMELESS
SHELTER WHEN HE IS AWARE OF THE RISK TO
LIFE, PROPERTY AND A NEIGHBORHOOD.
“NO SHELTER NEAR OUR SCHOOLS”
