A 24-story building will rise in Long
Island City, replacing a two-story structure
that included a coff ee shop.
Th e building at 41-05 29th St. will
include 66,934 square feet of residential
space and 84 apartments. Th e ground
fl oor will feature 2,050 square feet of
commercial space, according to permits
fi led with the Department of Buildings.
Amenities will include a fi tness center,
library, a children’s lounge and storage
for 41 bicycles, YIMBY fi rst reported.
Th ere will be no parking. Th e building
is located on a triangular lot right
across the street from Newcomers High
School.
SB Development Group purchased
the property for $15.5 million last
November, according to Th e Real Deal.
Fogerty Finger Architecture is responsible
for the design.
“It took some time to assemble the
various parcels and development rights
necessary to build something substantial,”
SB Development co-founder
Joseph Stern told Th e Real Deal. “Th e
irregular triangular shaped lot has its
challenges, but the opportunity to build
something diff erent and unique for the
neighborhood is what we envisioned
with our architect.”
In a report released by the Long Island
City Partnership on April 12, the development
corporation found that more
than 10,200 residential units are currently
under construction or proposed
beyond 2020.
Th e building is located near the
Queens Plaza section of Long Island
City and around the block from where
Queens Plaza Park, a 70-story tower
developed by Durst Organization, is
slated to be constructed.
