Poet and author Sherese Francis will host Kinetic: A Literary Jam
Series. This event has everything: spoken word, sound poetry, film,
writing workshops and the J. Expressions traveling library. Kinetic features
a collaboration with musicians, dancers, authors and writers in
Southeast Queens. Bring your books because the authors will be present
to sign them.

9) Museum of the Moving Image will screen Hale County This Morning,
This Evening an Academy Award nominated documentary feature.
Praised by The New York Times as, “pure cinematic poetry”- Hale
County This Morning, This Evening tells a story of two young African
American men from Hale County, Alabama. The film spans a period of
five year and explores the social construction of race, particularly that
of the deep south. The film was directed by award-winning photographer
RaMeil Ross.

11 The Jamaica Arts Center
has an oral history and
film event called Double Victory
& Freedom Flyers of Tuskegee.
The film tells an inspiring account
of Tuskegee airman, the country’s
first African American military pilots.
Historian J Todd Moye captures the
hardships and victories these brave
men endured. The historian draws on
over 800 interviews to create the captivating
film.

13 Polish-Canadian pianist
Daniel Wnukowski will
perform at Queens College for the
Karol Rathaus Festival which honors
the musician’s work. Rathaus,
the college’s first professor of composition
had a flourishing career in
Berlin. However, in 1932 he had
to flee the country due to political
circumstances in Germany. He
will perform the composer’s Piano
Concerto with The Orchestra Now
under Leon Botstein in LeFrak Concert
Hall at Queens College. The festival
also includes the 1936 British drama
Broken Blossoms and a lecture by
Grammy award-winning record producer
Dr. Michael Haas.

Image presents The Other
Me which is part of the MoMi’s
Greek film series. Presented in collaboration
with the Hellenic Film
Society USA, the film tells a story of
a professor of criminology who works
with the police to solve a case about
serial murders. The film had originally
been withdrawn from commercial
circulation when a murderer told the
media that The Other Me influenced
him. This film includes mature content
which is not appropriate for all
audiences. Please order tickets online.
