As a part of their celebration of Black History Month, spoken word
artist Bob McNeil will perform a tribute to inventor Lewis Howard
Latimer at his museum in Flushing. During his life, Latimer worked
with Alexander Graham Bell, where he drafted the necessary drawings
required to receive a patent for the telephone. In 1857, Filmer co-patented
an improved toilet system, and then later invented a lightbulb
with a carbon filament, along with Joseph Nichols. Through poetry and
a musical performance, McNeil will honor Lewis Howard Latimer’s life.
Along with his career as an artist, Mcneil has also written the Verses
of Realness.

has a Show-and-Tell event where
members can share family heirlooms,

about their culture. Although they
have roughly 400 members, all meetings
for the Irish Family History Forum
are open to the public and cost nothing.
According to their mission statement,
the Long Island nonprofit states
that the organization exists “to promote
and encourage the study of
Irish genealogy and family history,
and assists its members in researching
their Irish ancestors.”

Arts Center will have
Black Angels Over Tuskegee, a
performance New York Times
has described as “Uplifting!
Inspirational!” They said, “By the
end, when the pilots overcome their
obstacles and finally got up into the
air to the swelling of music, tears
welled up in my eyes.” Black Angels
Over Tuskegee tells the story of the
first African-American fighter pilots in
U.S. military history. This is an incredible
and revolutionary story of men
who broke down racial barriers while
serving their country.

and conservative synagogue

Queens Botanical Garden.
This Tuesday QBG will host a Dr.
George Washington Carver Workshop.
QBG honors Dr. Carver for his significant
contributions in the field of botany.
The workshop will teach participants
how to use Dr. Carver’s very
steps in the process as they take
plants to create paints and healing
lotions. After the workshop, students
can take home their work. Although
staff recommends the event for kids
ages 4 to 10, all ages can attend.
