Robber gets 18 years
for killing victim
A Woodhaven man will spend the
next 18 years behind bars for killing a
Richmond Hill man while robbing him
back in July 2014, prosecutors announced
on Friday.
Nestor Rodriguez, 25, of 90th Street
pleaded guilty in January 2019 to fi rst-degree
manslaughter in the case. At his sentencing
on Feb. 8, Queens Supreme Court
Justice Barry Schwartz ordered Rodriguez
to serve 18 years in prison, followed by
fi ve years’ post-release supervision.
According to Queens District Attorney
Richard A. Brown, Rodriguez and a
co-defendant violently assaulted and
robbed Nazmul Islam, 55, at the corner
of 76th Street and Atlantic Avenue in
Woodhaven at 4:30 a.m. on July 9, 2014.
Law enforcement sources said that
Rodriguez and the co-defendant allegedly
punched and choked Islam until he was
left incapacitated on the ground. Th ey
then allegedly removed money from his
pocket and fl ed the scene.
Th e TimesLedger reported that the
attack seemed to stem from a dispute
between Islam and the two men over car
keys at a nearby club.
Offi cers from the 102nd Precinct and
EMS units responded to the incident.
Islam was pronounced dead at a local
hospital.
Both Rodriguez and the co-defendant
— Carlos Genno, 26 — were picked up
by police on July 13, 2014, on jaywalking
and drug possession charges and were
later linked to Islam’s death, the New
York Daily News reported. Genno’s case
is currently pending, the Queens District
Attorney’s offi ce noted.

Note-carrying crook
gets bank cash
Police released images on Feb. 11 of a
middle-aged man wanted for questioning
in a recent Kew Gardens Hills bank
robbery.
Law enforcement sources said the caper
took place at 10:25 a.m. on Feb. 11 inside
the Queens County Savings Bank at 75-44
Main St.
According to authorities, the bandit
walked into the location, approached
a teller and presented a note demanding
cash. Th e employee complied with
the written request and handed over an
undisclosed sum of currency to the suspect,
who took the money and fl ed the
bank in an unknown direction.
Offi cers from the 107th Precinct
responded to the incident.
Cops describe the person of interest
as a white man believed to be 50 years
old, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 200
pounds. He was last seen wearing all-dark
clothing.

murder suspect
Police have released additional images
of a suspect who is said to be involved
in a deadly gang-related shooting at a
Jackson Heights subway station earlier
this month.
According to police, at 12:45 p.m. on
Feb. 5, 26-year-old Ramiro Gutierrez,
who is an alleged member of the MS-13
street gang, and an unknown man began
to beat 20-year-old Abel Mosso, an
alleged rival gang member, while riding
the 7 train. When the train pulled into
the 90th Street station, the men dragged
Mosso off the train and the fi ght spilled
out onto the platform.
Video recorded by a straphanger, prosecutors
say, allegedly shows Mosso being
repeatedly punched during the assault.
During the assault, Gutierrez allegedly
pulled himself away and shot Mosso, who
suff ered several gunshot wounds to his
face and head.
EMS responded to the scene and
declared Mosso dead. Gutierrez allegedly
identifi ed himself in a still taken from
the viral video.
Gutierrez was arrested on Feb. 5 and
charged with second-degree murder,
fi rst-degree gang assault and second-degree
criminal possession of a weapon.
Th e suspect at large is described as a
Hispanic man between the ages of 20 and
25 years old. He was last seen wearing a
dark “New York” skull hat, all dark clothing
and white sneakers.

Bandit punches
woman at cafe
Cops are looking for a man who may
know something about a cellphone
robbery that occurred in Jamaica in
December.
According to police, at 6:15 p.m. on
Dec. 20, 2018, a 24-year-old woman
was exiting Starbucks, located at 159-27
Jamaica Ave., when she was approached
by an unidentifi ed man. Th e man proceeded
to punch the victim in the face
with a closed fi st, causing her to fall to
the ground.
Th e suspect then stole the victim’s cellphone
and fl ed westbound on Jamaica
Avenue into the Jamaica Center-
Parsons/Archer subway station.
Offi cers from the 103rd Precinct and
EMS units responded to the incident.
Paramedics treated the victim at the
scene for bruising to her face.
Police described the person wanted
for questioning as a black man between
20 and 30 years of age who was last seen
wearing a black and gray jacket.
Th e NYPD released on Feb. 12 images
obtained from the scene, as well as from
the Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer subway
station immediately aft er the robbery.
