2 Jamaica Center for
Arts & Learning (JCAL)
will host a night of jazz
with Jasper Dütz. Dütz is
a multi-instrumentalist, composer
and gamer. He attended
the New School for Jazz
and Contemporary Music on
a full scholarship, and has
studied with artists such as
Lee Konitz, Walter Smith III,
Marty Ehrlich, Gary Foster
and Ben Wendel. Aside from
his education, he performed
at The Jazz Gallery, Jazz
Standard, Blue Note NYC,
Walt Disney Concert Hall and
Monterey Jazz Festival. This
event is a part of a series
every second Thursday of the
month from October of 2018
until June of 2019.

5 Little Cooks: Let’s
eggs-periment! The
Alley Pond Environmental
Center will host an eggthemed
educational workshop
for aspiring chefs. The
event will teach participants
fun healthy recipes, and
they’ll play a spatula game.
The young cooks will even
experiment with eggs from
other animals. This unique
event will have interactive
activities which will allow
attendees to make a tasty
egg snack. The snacks will
contain the following: eggs,
mustard, herbs, spices, avocado
and other fruits and
veggies. All materials included.
Ages 5 to 7 welcomed.

7 Lloyd X Latimer has
an exhibition opening,
Energy of Place at Lewis
Howard Latimer House
Museum in Flushing.
Originally owned by Lewis
Howard Latimer from 1903
- 1928, the home pays homage
to this African-American
inventor and draftsman. It
now operates as a museum
to not only Latimer’s
inventions but other African-
American inventors as
well. Latimer worked with
Alexander Graham Bell,
where he drafted the necessary
drawings required
to receive a patent for the
telephone. In 1857, Filmer
co-patented an improved toilet
system, and then later
invented a lightbulb with a
carbon filament, along with
Joseph Nichols. The exhibition
features Latimer’s artwork,
inspired by Tom
Lloyd’s sculptures and archival
documents about Lloyd’s
Storefront Museum.

will host a performance
of “Sleeping
Beauty” with artist David
Gonzalez. This includes multimedia
storytelling with
Chinese. Gonzalez has been
deemed a master storyteller
and performer by The
New York Times. The Times
wrote that “Mr. Gonzalez has
the gift of creating magical
worlds and drawing his audience
into them.” This family
performance will feature
live music and multimedia
image projections that take
the audience into a magical
fairytale world. Ages 5+.
