FLUSHING MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER FOR STABBING EX-GIRLFRIEND A Flushing man suspected of killing his 28-year-old ex-girlfriend was arraigned on a second-degree murder charge after being apprehended on the run in Virginia. Luis Zambrano, 30, allegedly used scissors to stab Angie Escobar multiple times for trying to end her relationship with him. Her body was later found in the trunk of her own car after being reported missing several days earlier. Union workers picket Howard Beach supermarket after meat staff fired A local labor union picketed a Key Food supermarket in Howard Beach after four meat workers were laid off and reportedly replaced with non-union workers. The location was one of five Waldbaum’s grocery stores purchased by Key Food Cooperative after Waldbaum’s parent company, The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (A&P), filed for bankruptcy this year. Proposed high school at Bayside Jewish Center not happening: SCA After months of community backlash, a proposal to build a 730-seat high school at the former Bayside Jewish Center was ultimately abandoned by the School Construction Authority. The school was initially intended to be a solution to massive class overcrowding, but political figures, community board members and residents took issue with the site’s proximity to several other schools in the area, including Bayside High School.
