COP CAR BURSTS INTO
FLAMES
Two officers escaped without injury
from their police cruiser aft er
it caught fi re along a Richmond Hill
street on the morning of Friday, Aug.
24, police reported.
Law enforcement sources said the
members of the 106th Precinct were inside
their patrol car at the corner of 115th
Street and 107th Avenue just aft er 8 a.m.
on Aug. 24 when they smelled smoke.
Sensing trouble, authorities said,
the officers got out of the cruiser,
which subsequently burst into fl ames.
Firefi ghters rushed to the scene and
put out the fi re within a few minutes,
the New York Post reported. Police
sources said the cause of the fi re is
believed to be mechanical.
Aside from damaged equipment
and gear — including the officers’
cellphones and a license plate reader
— neither cop was injured, sources said.

MOTORCYCLIST SOUGHT
FOR GAS STATION
ROBBERIES
Cops are looking for a motorcycle
riding crook who robbed two gas
stations in Woodside and Long Island
City at gunpoint on the same day.
According to police, at 6:30 a.m. on
Aug. 21, an unknown man entered the
Mobil station located at 68-09 Queens
Blvd., approached the 64-year-old male
employee at the counter and pulled out
a handgun. The bandit took $300 and
an Arizona Ice Tea before fl eeing the
scene on his motorcycle.
At 9:30 p.m. that same day, law enforcement
sources said, the crook went
into another Mobil Station, located at
35-15 Greenpoint Ave., approached
the 50-year-old male employee at the
counter and pulled out a handgun. The
suspect took $900 and fl ed the scene on
his motorcycle.
There were no injuries in either
incident, both of which were reported
to the 108th Precinct.
Cops described the crook as a man
standing 5 feet, 7 inches tall. He was
last seen wearing a black and silver
skull helmet with a mirrored visor,
black jacket and dark-colored pants.
