Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan has written a letter to Vincent Bradley, chairman of the State Liquor Authority (SLA), requesting that he look into the farm brewing license application filed at the Ridgewood location. In the letter, Nolan expressed her support for residents’ concerns over the noise, traffic and littering that this outdoor beer garden will bring to those who live near 176 Woodward Ave., where La Playa NYC will be. “The location would be an openair location where beer would be served. Its proposed hours of operation would extend to midnight most nights including weekday evenings,” Nolan wrote. “This will maximize the negative impact such an establishment will have on the nearby residential properties and residents’ daily lives, making it completely inappropriate at this location.” La Playa NYC is scheduled to open in Ridgewood on June 4 and run all summer until September. It will operate Mondays through Thursdays from 5 p.m. to midnight, and from noon to midnight on Fridays through Sundays. “We are trying to do a positive thing for the neighborhood,” said Marcus Burnett, co-owner of Rockaway Brewing Company. “We are trying to create a community space for all people who don’t have an outdoor space. We are community oriented and family-friendly people.” When it comes to the issue of litter, La Playa NYC will have garbage cans all around the property and regular garbage removal to reduce the amount of litter created by the urban beach beer garden. “As far as traffic, I encourage people to visit from the neighborhood on their bikes,” Burnett added. Burnett confirmed that during weekdays the music will be cut off at 10 p.m. to respect the neighbors who have to get up and go to work the following morning. “I spend a lot of time at the site working on the project as a small business owner, and people tell me that they are excited about having a beach open,” Burnett said. “I understand there are concerns, but the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Everything we have applied for is in compliance with the State Liquor Authority.” Ridgewood Property Owners and Civic Association JOIN US Thursday June 2nd, 2016 at 7:00 PM In theRidgewood Presbyterian Church (use the Ridgewood Older Adult Center entrance) 59-14 70th Street between Forest & 60th Ave Learn and Talk About Representatives from Move NY will discuss reducing congestion in Western Queens, modernizing and expanding the transit system and fixing our roads and bridges. New Members are always welcome No ‘happy endings’ for four cuffed in massage parlor bust BY ROBERT POZARYCKI [email protected] @robbpoz The NYPD is continuing to keep a tight grip on illegal activities at massage parlors in Queens. Four workers at three locations in Forest Hills, Maspeth and Rego Park were arrested on May 19 in the Queens North Vice Enforcement Unit’s latest undercover sting operation, police reported on Wednesday. Shu Feng Lin, 44, was arrested at her business at 75-58 113th St. in Forest Hills after allegedly offering an undercover detective a “hand job” in exchange for $50 in cash. Lin was additionally charged for practicing massage therapy without a license. Police arrested three other massage workers in the May 19 operation for unlicensed practice: Flushing resident Yu Ye Bao, 53, was arrested at a parlor located at 57-03 71st St. in Maspeth, while Manhattan’s Xiaoling Li, 57, and Judy Li, 43, were picked up at a parlor located at 89-08 Eliot Ave. in Rego Park. Captain Mark Wachter, commander of the 104th Precinct, had previously announced the arrests in a post on the 104th Precinct’s Facebook page. The operation took place within the confines of both the 104th Precinct and the 112th Precinct, which covers Forest Hills and Rego Park. “We will continue to actively address these locations based on community complaints,” he wrote. The Vice Enforcement team has been busy busting illegal activity at massage parlors this spring. They arrested four workers at a bust in Ridgewood and Glendale in March, then eight more at parlors in Ridgewood, Maspeth and Rego Park in April.
