St. Margaret’s/RA Flyers open their outdoor
track season with multiple medals
On April 22, the St. Margaret’s/
Resurrection Flyers started
their outdoor season at Astoria
Park with medals in nine events.
First place in the 800 medley relay
went to Olaia Higgins, Caroline Gordon,
Madeline Mauceri and Aileen
Mitarotonda. Alexander Roa also won
gold for his 50-yard dash.
Kacper Niepojok, Sean Walsh, Victor
Ostling and Ricky Hubert came in
second place for their 1200 medley
relay. Second place in the 100 meter
went to Olivia Santoro. In the long
jump, Andrew Kelly and Thomas
Fischer also won second place.
Frank Santoro, Anthony Pedicini,
Matthew Gordon and Sebastian
Audrin came in third for their 800
medley relay. Also bringing home
a bronze medal for third place was
Penelope Bevan for her 400-meter run.
In the 600 medley, Ethan Joseph,
Gavin Walsh, Luke Mantel and Unai
Higgins placed fourth. Savannah
Conroy and Sadie Donahue also placed
fourth for their 50-yard dashes.
Queensborough Tigers roar in
extra innings to another title
Late-inning heroics helped the
Tigers of Queensborough Community
College win the 2018
CUNYAC/MCU Community College
Baseball Championship on May 7 at
MCU Park in Brooklyn.
Trailing 4-0 entering the eighth
inning against Bronx Community
College, the Bayside-based Tigers
sprung to life, scoring three runs in
the frame to narrow the gap down
to a single run. In the ninth, down

subsequently threw the ball over

reach, allowing Queensborough’s

grabbed the lead in the top of the

on an error, then Fitzgerald drove

MVP award. “We stuck together and
didn’t give up. Everyone strung
together hits and that’s how you win.”
Queensborough’s starter, Ryan
Sandberg, pitched the fi rst nine innings,
striking out 15 while walking
four batters.
“I have to say that it feels great to
be a champion,” said Queensborough
Head Coach Roger Mischel.
