Ridgewood groups go walking to help children’s hospital
Members of the New 3-2-1
Kiwanis Club of Ridgewood
recently partnered
with the Greater Ridgewood Youth
Council to participate in the St.
Mary’s Pediatric Children’s Hospital
Walk-a-Thon. Together, the organizations
raised more than $1,900 for
the cause. As noted, it was the first
fundraising effort by the Ridgewood
Kiwanis, and various schools
collaborated with the club to hold
youth and family events in support
of walk-a-thon participants. In addition,
the Ridgewood Kiwanis Club
donated more than 1,000 food items
to the St. Matthias Food Pantry and
kicked off the Safe Haven Project at
their recent meeting, held on May 2.

Ridgewood
Kiwanis
helps kick off
‘Safe Haven’
project
Ridgewood Kiwanis President
Liz Fitzgerald recently joined
Detective Thomas Bell of the
104th Precinct Community Aff airs
Unit and Michael Addeo of Ridgewood
Offi ce Products to kick off the
“Safe Haven” project throughout the
community. The brainchild of Past
Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor John
Stahl, this effort will create safe
places at stores across the community
for children and seniors to enter
if they feel that they are at risk. The
store owner would then call the responsible
party to assure the safety
of those who enter their business for
help. According to Robert Monahan
of the Ridgewood Kiwanis, Captain
John Mastronardi, commander of
the 104th Precinct, has committed
resources toward processing background
checks of participating store
owners.
