LINDEN HILL UNITED METHODIST CEMETERY
Linden Hill United Methodist Cemetery was founded in 1842 by Englishspeaking
Metthodists,, who werre located at the Second Street Methodist
EpiscopalChurch on 2nd Street between Avenues C and D in Manhattttan. We
are a nonsectarian cemetery with a Methodist heritage.. In 1875 a swampy section
of the cemetery was sold to a Manhattan synagogue.. Then,, in 1897, Linden Hill
Cemetery was redesigned and tte main entrance was moved from Grandview
Avenue ((PoplarLane)) to the opposite end of the cemetery,namely Woodward
Avenue. The cemetery offiice was built at this location, and is still standing at
Woodward and Dekalb Avenues.
Today, Linden Hill Cemetery, as it
is commonly known, still remains a
nonsectarian cemetery with a Meth-
e garden-type settings
andthe rolling hillsides are truly a wonder
to the eye, as we are blessedwith the
New York City skyline as our backdrop.
