Firefighters battled extreme cold and wind while trying to extinguish a massive fire inside a Williamsburg storage facility that began last Saturday morning, Jan. 31, and smoldered the next several days. According to FDNY sources, the inferno began at about 6 a.m. Saturday inside the four-story waterfront building on North 11th Street off Kent Avenue, Fire Department units from every corner of the city responded to the incident along with the 94th Precinct and EMS units. According to sources, the facility housed large files of paper records from government agencies and private businesses. Smoke clouds could be seen and smelt from as far away as Ozone Park.
