Locón, a Guatemalan immigrant, was working as a busboy at the restaurant to save money to return to his home country to reunite with his girlfriend. COYOTE UGLY April was the month of the coyote in Queens as one was found on top of a bar in Long Island City and another was seen running around near Juniper Valley Park and captured in Middle Village. Pan Am homeless shelter infested with vermin A report found that the homeless weren’t the only ones inhabiting the former Elmhurst hotel. It was discovered that rats were seen rummaging through the piles of garbage left outside of the Pan Am shelter, and residents also noted issues with cockroaches inside of their apartments. This would not be the last of the issues raised with the Pan Am homeless shelter. Communities come together for a cause Local Nepalese communities across Queens gathered for candlelight vigils to support the victims of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25 which claimed more than 4,600 lives. Fundraising campaigns were organized to collect and ship money and vital supplies to the families devastated by this natural disaster.
