The expansive spot serves Peruvian food, including their famous rotisserie chicken and green sauce. Chicken used to be the only meat available at Pio Pio, until seafood was added in 2007. The dining place has nine branches throughout Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx and Brooklyn, after its original Rego Park establishment in 1994. Manager Charles Castro discusses Pio Pio’s progression and its topnotch food. “We started out with a small restaurant and our neighboring streets. It’s been a good experience. We offer a lot of good quality food for a reasonable price.” Good quality food is an understatement for Pio Pio’s delicious and nutritious platters. Seafood friendly diners can enjoy the Ensalada Del Pacifico ($16). Deep sea dive into your salad filled with shrimp, squid, octopus, scallops, mesclun and lemon onion dressing. To crank up the heat, try jalea, a seafood platter. The spicy meal is a customary Peruvian dish that is fried and topped with salsa criolla ($24 to $36). It includes crispy calamari, white fish, shrimp and mussels.
