62 The QUEE NS Courier • DECEMBER 31, 2015 for breaking news visit www.qns.com Christmas lunch in Howard Beach helps local Catholic schools Nearly $750,000 was raised by business professionals 6 across the city who attended the Catholic Foundation for Brooklyn and Queens Bishop’s Christmas Luncheon on Dec. 17 at Russo’s on the Bay in Howard Beach. The funds included contributions from matching scholarship funds for the Bishop’s Scholarship Fund and Youth Evangelization programs. During the event, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, leader of the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens, recognized four individuals and organizations considered pillars of the Catholic community in Brooklyn and Queens. Samuel E. Romanzo received the Emma A. Daniels Benefactor’s Award; DeSales Media Group, with Msgr. Kieran Harrington accepting on its behalf, received the St. John Paul II Distinguished Stewardship Award; and Raymond and Mary Teatum, who received the Spirit of Hope Award. Juliet Papa of WINSAM radio served as the mistress of ceremonies, while students from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Academy in South Ozone Park performed Christmas carols and the Nativity story. The diocese thanked the students from Cathedral Preparatory School in Elmhurst for their assistance during the event. Msgr.
