To learn more or make an appointment, call 718-297-4100 FLUSHING HOUSE HONORS VETS On Monday, November 11, Flushing House sponsored a Veterans Day Breakfast to recognize residents who served in the United States military. The two dozen veterans honored were mostly men, but also included two women, Henrietta Swirin and Julia Donovan. Nearly 200 residents of Flushing House attended the special breakfast. Rev. Douglas Kurtz, Flushing House executive director, offi ciated at the ceremony of honors. Kurtz called out the names of each resident and asked them to stand and remain standing, to a resounding applause from the dining room audience. “We honor those of you here today, as we honor the millions of Americans who have donned the uniform of military service and have valiantly fought to build, improve and defend our nation’s freedom,” Kurtz said. “May God bless our heroic service men and women, and the families that support them on this Veterans Day 2013.
