He is responsible for the organizations’ overall program planning and administration, fund development and fundraising strategies. Under his leadership, Alexander has re-established RDRC’s as an economic development corporation focused on business, commercial and real estate development. To support this organizational shift, he has raised over $5 million in capital commitments to advance several highly visible capital improvement projects. This includes the creation and implementation of the Downtown Far Rockaway Revitalization Plan that features the restoration of a 9,000 square foot commercial building into RDRC’s future headquarters to be known as the Renaissance Center (Summer 2015); renovation of a vacant City-owned parcel of land into the Beach 20th Street Pedestrian Plaza (Spring 2015); and the development of a multimodal transit hub along Beach 21st Street. To assist local businesses r e c o v e r in the p o s t - S a n d y economy, he partn e r e d R D R C with the NY Empire State Development Corporation and SUNY to establish the Rockaway Peninsula Small Business Development Center. To increase access to capital by local entrepreneurs, businesses and developers, he successfully competed for a US Treasury Community Development Financial Institutional Fund (CDFI) technical assistance grant to establish a revolving loan fund 2015. To help local families with modest incomes learn to save and manage their finances he created the Financial Empowerment Program and is spearheading a credit union organizing effort to establish the Renaissance Federal Credit Union. Alexander’s professional background includes over ten years experience as Chief Financial Officer of two prominent not-for-for-profit corporations, Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement and Harlem Dowling West Side Center for Children & Family Services. Mr. Alexander possesses over seven years of City government experience in the areas of budgeting, planning, contract and procurement administration. Alexander received his Bachelors Degree in Public A d m i n i s t r a t i o n and Government from St. John’s University and Masters Degree in Finance and M a n a g e m e n t from New York U n i v e r s i t y ’ s Robert F. Wagner School for Public Service. s Vice President New York League of Conservation Voters Dan Hendrick is Vice President for External Affairs for the New York League of Conservation Voters. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, NYLCV is the only statewide organization in New York that uses the power of endorsements to elect pro-environment leaders. NYLCV also has the only state political action committee that directly engages in electoral politics to elect for the environment. The organization has helped elect sustainability leaders in Queens at the local, state and federal levels. In addition, Dan is the Producer, Co-Director and Project Founder of “Jamaica Bay Lives,” the first-ever, feature-length documentary film about Jamaica Bay. In production since 2011, “Jamaica Bay Lives” is telling the story of this imperiled estuary and the Queens residents who call it home. The film is expected to be completed in 2015. Dan also authored the first-ever popular book (“Jamaica Bay,” Arcadia, 2006) about Jamaica Bay’s history. A graduate of Columbia University, Dan is a proud U. S. Navy veteran. He lives in Sunnyside with his spouse, City Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer. DAN Hendrick DR. VIREN JHAVERI Director Prestige Dental Care Born in the vibrant city of Bombay in India, Dr. Jhaveri immigrated to the United States in 1990. He completed his doctorate in dental surgery from the esteemed NYU college of dentistry in 1994. He has been a private practitioner ever since. Right from his college days at NYU Dr. Jhaveri is passionate about community service, he has lectured in several NYC shelters to under privileged mothers and teenagers regarding oral health and its importance. He was awarded the President’s services award for volunteerism and community service at NYU. Dr. Jhaveri has very well served the Queens County Dental Society. He is a past Editor and past President of the Queens County Dental Society, and still works actively in the dental society as he has served on the Board of Trustees for over 15 years. Dr. Jhaveri has also been a delegate from Queens for both the American Dental Association and NYS Dental Associations. He is past chairman of the Continuing Education Committee, the Young Dentist Committee, The Web committee, Council on Insurance and the Council of Dental Benefits. He is currently NYS Chair of the Dental Benefits Counsel. He has served as the Secretary, Editor and President of the Indian Dental Association. He is currently attending faculty at NYU College of Dentistry and Flushing Hospital Medical Center. For his work he has received citations from NYS Senators. He is also a fellow of the American college of dentistry, the international college of dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the American academy of implant dentistry. In addition to the aforementioned organizations, he is a member in good standing of the American dental association and the Indian dental association (USA) and the NYU Alumni association. Finally and most importantly he is happily married for almost 25 years to his dentist wife Dr. Sharmila Jhaveri, together they have 2 sons one in North Shore LIJ school of medicine and other entering high school soon.
