A champions award & networking event that honors top business men for their outstanding leadership and their contributions to the community. The event includes a business expo with networking followed by a dinner and awards ceremony. The evening features networking with Queens’ top professionals, an expo with the area’s leading businesses, dinner and a charity raffle benefiting a nonprofit organization. Lifetime Achievement Award Max Kupferberg is the former Chairman of the Board of Kepco, Inc., a manufacturer of electronic power supplies for commercial and military electronics. He is a longtime Director of New York Community Bancorp, Inc. A native of Queens, Max graduated with a BS in Physics from Queens College and did his graduate work at NYU. During WWII, he served the United States by working on the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos.  Upon returning home, he and his 3 brothers, Jack, Jesse and Ken, established Kepco, Inc., which continues today in Flushing. He has continued to support the local Queens community throughout the years.  Max has been an active participant in many communitybased organizations, including Temple Beth Sholom, the Flushing YMCA, Flushing Hospital Medical Center, and the Queens Botanical Gardens. He also has chaired or served as president, treasurer, or trustee of many of these institutions and is also a member of the Queens College Alumni Association. His recent philanthropic activities include the Kupferberg Center at Queens College. MAX Kupferberg Philanthropist, Retired Chairman of the Board, KEPCO VALLONE “SPECIAL MEN OF HONOR AWARD” Council Member Peter F. Vallone Jr. Attorney, Special Assistant to Governor Cuomo Council Member Peter F. Vallone Jr. formerly represented Astoria and served as Chair of the Public Safety Committee. As Chair, he successfully led the fight against having the 9/11 terror trials in New York City, and fought to stop cuts to the NYPD, add more officers to local precincts, and for the city to get the money it deserves from the state and federal governments. He wrote the law that helped put security cameras in schools and sponsored legislation to require the city to provide security measures for nonpublic schools. He has allocated millions of dollars to schools in his district to improve facilities, install computers expand afterschool programming. Dubbed ‘The Man Who Hates Graffiti’ by the New York Times, Vallone has waged war against graffiti vandals. Vallone’s legislation has made it illegal to sell graffiti tools to minors. He expanded the graffiti-fighting arsenal to include regulating the sale of etching acid and pens. He passed a law requiring that all new roll-down security gates be see-through, eliminating solid gates that attracted graffiti. Vallone’s other legislation ranges from banning trans fats to establishing plastic bag recycling. His last bill established an “Animal Abuse Registry,” which led him to be named one of the “Nation’s Top 10 Animal Defenders” by the Animal Legal Defense Fund. Vallone has led the fight against the unfair concentration of power plants and represented C.H.O.K.E and Astoria residents in court. Vallone got his start at the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, where he successfully prosecuted thousands of criminals. An accomplished athlete, Vallone was invited to play against the Chinese National Ping-Pong team on ABC’s Wide World of Sports. He is also a professional musician and an avid scuba diver. He graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Fordham College and from Fordham Law School. He has two daughters, Catherine and Caroline. Vallonehas recently been appointed “Special Assistant” to Governor Cuomo, and is assigned to the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. PERRY Vallone Attorney Perry is a licensed attorney in New York and New Jersey with a distinguished background in real estate and land use. Perry began his career in the Real Estate Department of one of the premier law firms in New Jersey — Greenbaum, Rowe and Smith. With this foundation, Perry later went in-house with K. Hovnanian Homes — the #1 homebuilder in New Jersey. Over the course of 15 successful years with K. Hovnanian, Perry performed numerous roles (including Area Counsel, Community Manager and Land Acquisition Manager) and was a consistent leader in developing strategies to achieve land use milestones, exceed business plans and obtain the highest customer satisfaction ratings. Since joining his father at C&V as a Senior Vice President in 2008, Perry has spear-headed several successful economic initiatives at the city, state and federal levels.Perry has also helped C&V’s nonprofit clients survive these difficult economic times by protecting and securing appropriation funding. Perry and his wife Mary recently celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary and they are proud of their three children: Samantha, Matthew and Nicholas.
