Dr. Arthur Flug currently serves as the Executive Director of the Harriet & Kenneth Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives at Queensborough Community College (QCC). Upon graduation from Queens College in 1961, he began a career in the New York City school system that would last 30 years... In 1990, he accepted a position as District Administrator for Congressman Gary Ackerman and after 10 years again ”retired” to serve a stint as a volunteer in the Israeli Army. Upon returning to the States, he re-entered the fi eld of government and became Chief of Staff to New York City Council Finance Chairman, David I. Weprin In 2007, he became Executive Director of the Kupferberg Holocaust Center (KHRCA) at Queensborough Community College. In this capacity, he has created a powerful educational program that unites the experiences of Queens County’s Holocaust and Asian survivors with those of the QCC community to create an ongoing program of social justice Among the honors he has received are the LaGuardia – Lehman Award from Bnai Brith International and the Commission for Social Justice of the Sons of Italy, the Claire Shulman Award from the Queens Council on Social Welfare, the Historic Justice award from the Korean American Civic Empowerment and the Good Neighbor Award from the Korean American Association of Greater New York. JOHN J. CIAFONE, ESQ., Law Offi ce of John J. Ciafone Executive Director of the Aldos Democratic Club Attorney for the New York State Fraternal Order of Police Big Apple Lodge John J. Ciafone, Esq., has been practicing law for almost 20 years. Ciafone is admitted to practice law in both State and Federal Courts in New York, New Jersey and Washington D.C. Ciafone is also admitted to the United States Supreme Court. Ciafone currently serves as Executive Director of the Aldos Democratic Club and is the Attorney for the New York State Fraternal Order of Police Big Apple Lodge. He is a member of the East River Kiwanis and the Knights of Columbus. Ciafone is a New York State Certifi ed Arbitrator and Mediator and has been appointed a Referee and Guardian Ad Litem for the New York State Court System. Ciafone was elected twice to Community School Board 30 with the highest number of votes where he served as President and Treasurer of the Board. On the Board Ciafone distinguished himself as a strong advocate for child safety, increased crossing guards, security and police presence at the schools and had the best attendance record for Board members in the entire City of New York. He helped lead the fi ght for school uniforms and during his tenure, District 30 produced the largest number of new schools creating seats for early childhood, elementary and middle school students. Ciafone was also elected a Judicial Delegate. Ciafone was born and raised in Astoria. He went to public. He graduated with Honors at New York University being on the Dean’s List and receiving the Chancellor’s Award. He then went to St. John’s University School of Law where he received the Judge Mary Egan scholarship and was an Editor of the Forum. Ciafone has had the rare fortune to serve in all three branches of government. He was an intern to former Governor Mario Cuomo; worked in the Legal Division in the New York City Council and was an intern to New York State Supreme Court Justice Frederick Schmidt. FLUG, Ed.D. s
