FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.qns.com SEPTEMBER 1, 2016 • BUZZ • THE QUEENS COURIER 79 dining out Luna Asian Bistro BY BRADLEY HAWKS Astoria has a brand new rooftop lounge where diners can savor delicious Asian fusion while gazing upon the city skyline. Located on Steinway between Broadway and 31st Avenue, Luna Asian Bistro features both indoor and outdoor dining illuminated with bright neon that accentuates the city sky. It is absolutely remarkable how elevating yourself one story above street level can instantaneously transport you to another time and space. Plated with meticulous execution, dishes arrive like edible artwork. Starters range from braised pork belly Ho Pang steamed buns to Japanese gyoza and shumai, though we recommend beginning with an order of the crispy wontons. These deepfried golden pouches are stuffed with lobster, basil, and cream cheese, and served with a playfully spicy thyme sauce. Tartar is available in three various formats, but who cam resist the best of all worlds combined? The Ocean Mix tartar arrives with cucumber wheels stacked with king crab, salmon, ikura, onion, pepper, parsley, and tomato served with the chef’s special sauce. Sashimi is colorfully re-imagined, as well. Garlic white tuna is quickly seared tataki-style, then dressed with French onion, tobiko, and yuzu sauce. Truffl ed salmon is adorned with black tobiko, chives, and spicy lemon zest. Yellowtail is  Luna Asian Bistro 32-72 Steinway,Astoria, NY 11103 (917) 832-7911 (917) 832-6272 www.lunaasianbistro.com livened with fresh jalapeno and soy yuzu sauce. Yuzu is used throughout the menu to add an exotic element. Almost like a small grapefruit, yuzu is an aromatic Japanese citrus that blends the tang of a grapefruit with the sweetness of a mandarin orange. Sushi rolls morph into unique fl avor explorations, as well. The Lady Gaga is a shrimp tempura and eel roll topped with spicy tuna and tobiko, wrapped in tissue-thin soy paper, and drizzled with coconut curry. Kitchen entrees lean on the more classic side, like teriyaki, tempura, and pad thai—each prepared with exquisite presentations. Grilled mango chicken is a standout with fresh mango, red onion, and a piquant mango sweet chili sauce. Traditional desserts and classic cocktails are available, as well. There is dining al fresco, and then there is dining on a rooftop. This summer is the perfect time to elevate your experience and give Luna Asian Bistro a try!
