Saturday, August 6, 2016 Chinese Music Ensemble of New York The oldest and only full Chinese orchestra in the United States will be performing from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. The performance will feature will feature the younger members of the orchestra. The members of the orchestra can play almost every type of Chinese music on Chinese instruments. A small part of the ensemble will play selection of the orchestra’s complete repertory. The opening ceremonies will go from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The opening ceremonies will include Lions and Dragon dancing teams, percussionists and invited dignitaries. Simon Yu’s Band: r.O.T.i (Resilience of the Intelligent) Hong Kong guitarist, Simon Yu and his band Resilience of the Intelligence (r.O.T.i) will be giving New York a taste of his form of funk rock. r.O.T.i will be performing from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Yu has collaborated with NYC’s best artist and has went on tour with Hip-Hop icon, Ms. Lauryn as a lead guitarist. Yu incorporates elements from Hong Kong into his music. The performances will take the audience to a place of colorful myths, historical drama and timeless beauty. You can learn more at www.newyorkshaolintemple. com Storyteller Jonathan Kruk will be keeping the children entertained all day with “Dragon Tales” from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2016 Chinese Traditional Ribbon Group Dance The Chinese traditional dance group, “Dance SensAsian” will be performing from 10:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. The performance will be followed by a short America Jazz Dance Solo by 12-year-old Derek Lee from Bayside, Queens. Derek Lee has recently won 2 awards in the Dance Masters of America competition. CASYM Steel Orchestra An orchestra with over 90 members will be performing from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The members range from ages 7-21 and will be presenting the sounds of the island with steel drums. 45 Riots The extravagant collection of NYC’s finest musicians, 45 riots will be performing from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. 45 riots has a wide variety of musical talents ranging from current hits to classics songs. 45 riots has played in major areas all over the world and some members have won Grammys.
