She is currently the youngest member of Queens Community Board 14. She also sits on the board of directors for the P a r t i c i p a t o r y Budget Project. Cox is also a board member of St. John’s Episcopal Hospital. CURRENT ROLE Cox is currently employed full time at the Rockaway Youth Task Force as the chief operations offi cer. Cox is in charge of overseeing the fi nancial management for the Rockaway Youth Task Force. Cox is also responsible for fundraising for the task force by earning grants and government funding. PERSONAL Cox is currently enrolled in Baruch College. She decided to keep her education in the city so she can stay close to home and her family. Cox has one older brother and is the inspiration to four younger siblings. INSPIRATIONS Cox is a strong believer in the quote “A community is not found, it’s built.” Cox fi rst joined the Rockaway Youth Task Force because she wanted to get her peers more involved with the community. Cox’s goal during her time at the task force is to get her residents more civically involved. CHALLENGES Cox’s biggest challenge is simply being a young member who is a part of a very mature fi eld. Cox overcomes her daily challenges because she know that “you are never too young,” and being fl exible in her position is her key to success. FAVORITE MEMORIES Cox enjoys seeing the youth of her community learn and develop. She used her position on the Participatory Budgeting Project to help some schools in the Rockaway area. Over the past year, Cox was able to help get some projects funded to help better some of the schools in the Rockaway area. These projects consist of classroom upgrades for P. S. 183Q, a library upgrade, locker room renovations and a new weight room for Far Rockaway High School. BY REGGIE DEBRAH JULY 22-24 RANDALL’S ISLAND PARK PARTNERS KENDRICK LAMAR
