Jonathan Blum, 29, a former teacher at Dreamyard Preparatory High School in the Bronx, tried to meet a 14-year-old girl who he conversed with online. The man was met with surprise when the teenager turned out to be an undercover police officer, and he was arrested on May 14, 2015. Queens District Attorney (DA) Richard A. Brown added that the NYPD vice detective in his undercover persona as a 14-year-old girl from Queens had responded to Blum’s Craigslist ad, in which Blum requested a young teen “who wanted to mess around with a real licensed teacher.” Using an anonymous woman’s screen name, Blum continuously exchanged several sexually explicit emails with the “teenager” between April 13, 2015, and May 14, 2015. On Monday, Queens Supreme Court Justice Dorothy Chin-Brandt sentenced Blum to six months in jail and 10 years of probation, after he pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted criminal sexual act with a minor in April 2016. The former teacher already surrendered his New York State teaching license and resigned from his position with the New York City Department of Education. Additionally, Blum will be required to register as a level two sex offender on the New York State Sex Offender Registry. “The defendant has admitted his guilt and will go to jail.
