health Big changes underway for Long Island Jewish Forest Hills – Northwell Health BY EMILY DAVENPORT edavenport@qns.com/@EmSlapstheBass Big things are happening for Long Island Jewish Forest Hills – Northwell Health, and they’re happening sooner than you can imagine. From new construction to a growing staff, Long Island Jewish Forest Hills – Northwell Health is quickly expanding and starting to have more care to provide locally. Originally called Forest Hills Hospital, the hospital fully integrated into the Long Island Jewish/ Northwell Health system in March 2016. The hospital is one of the best places to receive bariatric surgery; with two full-time bariatric surgeons on staff, they perform 75 bariatric surgeries a year, and are looking to have performed 100 by the end of next year. Additionally, Long Island Jewish Forest Hills – Northwell Health has a phenomenal stroke program. The hospital has earned the Gold Plus and Elite Honor from the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association for their outstanding work in rehabilitating stroke victims in their hospital. This year, Long Island Jewish Forest Hills – Northwell Health is going through some major structural changes. They are currently under construction to expand their imaging center, which is connected to their radiology department. With the new construction, they are making the imaging center (which recently became equipped with a new, state-of-the-art MRI machine, CAT scanner, mammography machine and ultrasound) more accessible for inpatient and outpatient use alike. Another big step that the hospital has taken is with its recent connectivity to the Northwell Health system. In addition to the staff on site, Long Island Jewish Forest Hills – Northwell Health has access to many doctors within the Northwell Health system across the country. For example, there are currently three radiologists on site at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills – Northwell Health. There are 150 radiologists within the Northwell Health system. Radiology test results are very rarely printed on fi lm anymore and are stored digitally with PACS (Picture Archiving Communications System). Because the fi les can be shared on the computer, the radiologists at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills can share the test results for consultations with any of the 147 additional radiologists, since the test results can now access remotely with ease. Because Long Island Jewish Forest Hills is now a part of the Northwell Health system, these same services can be offered across many subspecialties, including pathology. With its recent merge the Long Island Jewish medical system, the hospital is seeing an increase in numbers of its subspecialty faculty. On July 1, 2016, they welcomed a new associate medical director. This month, Long Island Jewish Forest Hills – Northwell Health welcomed a new gastroenterologist and OB-GYN to the hospital’s full-time staff. In August, the hospital is going to be bringing on two new urologists, a new general surgeon and a new bariatric surgeon, which is going to help create new localized access to subspecialties that weren’t available in the past. So what does the future hold for Long Island Jewish Forest Hills – Northwell Health? As soon as current construction is completed, new construction will begin on a new emergency walk-in center. In 2017, Long Island Jewish Forest Hills – Northwell Health is also looking to expand its maternity area by adding 10 new private postpartum rooms.
