By Angela Matua amatua@qns.com/@AngelaMatua A 21-year-old woman died and three others were injured on Thursday after a 56-year-old woman driving a Porsche hit a sidewalk and two other cars on the Horace Harding Expressway service road in Corona. At about 6:30 p.m. on June 30, police responded to the accident, which involved four people and three motor vehicles at the intersection of the Horace Harding Expressway service road and Junction Boulevard. According to police, 56-yearold Irene Lee of Forest Hills was speeding westbound on the Horace Harding Expressway service road when she lost control. Her black Porsche jumped onto the sidewalk and hit a tree, a 21-year-old female pedestrian walking on the sidewalk and a 26-year-old female bicyclist. Both victims were taken to Elmhurst General Hospital and the 21-year-old victim succumbed to her injuries. Lee continued into the southbound lane of Junction Boulevard where she collided with two vehicles, a Mini Cooper and Toyota Camry that were waiting for the traffic light to change. The 46-year-old man driving the Mini Cooper was transported to Elmhurst Hospital. The 26-yearold driving the Toyota Camry was treated at the scene, police said. Lee fled the scene of the crime, according to police, but shortly came back and told officers she was the driver. A witness saw a Hispanic male his 50s wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans run from the scene. A spokesperson for the NYPD said that man may have been a passenger in the Porsche. Lee was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and received a traffic device violation for disobeying a steady red light. An investigation by the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is ongoing. Middle Village man arrested for molesting an 11-year-old girl on an Elmhurst street By Robert Pozarycki rpozarycki@qns.com @robbpoz Detectives picked up a Middle Village man on June 30 for allegedly sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl on an Elmhurst street a week earlier. Police said Jose Para of 83rd Place allegedly attacked the girl at 7:45 a.m. on June 23 in front of a catering hall on Albion Avenue near Queens Boulevard. He was arrested as a result of an investigation conducted by Detective Danielle Febus of the NYPD Queens Child Abuse Squad. According to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown, Para walked up to the girl and began speaking to her; neither the suspect nor the victim knew each other. Para allegedly asked her where she went to school and told her that he was 20 years old. After she replied that she went to middle school and was 11 years of age, prosecutors said, Para allegedly commented on her shirt, then grabbed her right breast. The girl ran off and alerted school officials, who then reported the incident to the 110th Precinct. Para, whom police sources Photo via Google Maps/Inset courtesy of NYPD noted has 21 prior arrests, was charged with first-degree sexual abuse and acting in a manner injurious to a child. He is currently awaiting arraignment in Queens Criminal Court. “Young children walking to school in broad daylight should not have to worry about a stranger walking up to them and then touching them in an inappropriate way,” Brown said in a statement on July 1. He encouraged anyone who believes they may have been abused by Para to call the NYPD Queens Special Victims Squad at 718-520-9277.
