Nicole and Frank Li will have a soft opening for Something Sweet at 49-10 Vernon Blvd. on the weekend of July 8, Nicole Li said. This will be the second location for the couple, who opened their first shop in Staten Island five years ago. “We actually have been looking for spots in the past two years, but it’s so hard to find,” Li said. “Luckily one day my husband passed by and saw the place for rent and I thought, ‘This is a chance.’” Li will make the ice cream in-store and, in addition to traditional flavors like vanilla and chocolate, she will also serve Asian flavors such as taro and sesame. Her recipes include less sugar than most ice cream, and she strives to make the healthiest version of the dessert, she said. Thai ice cream rolls will also be served. Liquid ice cream is poured into a metal container, which is cooled and rolled into scrolls. Something Sweet will also stock more than 30 flavors of Bubble Tea and fresh fruit smoothies with strawberries, bananas, mangoes, blueberries and more. Desserts will include the more traditional cupcakes, cheesecake, tiramisu and other Asian-fusion desserts that will be prepared by a baker. Li said the price for each item will range from $5 to $7, and hours during the soft-opening will span from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. LIC Post first reported the story. By Angela Matua amatua@qns.com/@AngelaMatua Sac’s Place, a pizza shop and restaurant in Astoria, will bring its menu of homemade pasta and family recipes to a new location in Jackson Heights. Sac’s Place of Jackson Heights will open at 86-14 37th Ave., according to the restaurant’s newsletter, and will be open for delivery and takeout only. Domenico and Anthony Sacramone opened the original pizza shop in 1989 on the corner of Broadway and 29th Street and expanded to a full-service restaurant in 1998. Now located at 25-41 Broadway, the brothers serve up their mother’s recipes and make handmade pastas and stuffed ravioli downstairs. The pizza offerings include Mama’s Old-Fashioned Pie, which consists of fresh mozzarella layered over sauce and topped with basil. Patrons can also choose between 23 toppings to add to their pies. Roasted pepper and smoked mozzarella ravioli, chicken Napoletana, and spinach fettucine are also included on the menu. They also recently added a brunch menu with breakfast pizzas and classic items such as buttermilk pancakes and egg frittatas. The owners have not released opening day details and they were not available for comment. But according to the restaurant’s Facebook page, the group is working hard to open up the new place soon. “Join us on our journey to open the finest pizzeria in Jackson Heights, Queens — we’re working overtime to make this happen and we’re taking you along for the ride,” a Facebook post said.
