But each home presents challenges to those who are having mobility difficulties, from the steps leading to the front door to bathrooms with high, difficultto climb tubs. Alpha Care Supply in Valley Stream has been working to meet those challenges for the past two decades, and aims to expand its services in the years ahead, as the city’s senior population is expected to boom over the next two decades. Chung Susan Lee purchased Alpha Care in 2014, taking over a familyowned business first established in 1992. Having experience with other small business ventures, Lee said he and his wife were drawn to the company because it was well-established in the community as a company dedicated to improving the lives of seniors and the disabled with experienced staff. Alpha Care installs wheelchair lifts and ramps for homes, condominiums and apartment buildings, as well as businesses and other public venues; it also provides full bathroom modifications. All improvements are in accordance with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. “We provide a full turnkey solution to these accessibility issues and address all ADA related compliancy” Lee said, noting that Alpha Care works on behalf of clients with architects to design mobility improvements and secure proper permits. The company is fully licensed and fully insured to meet such needs. Alpha Care is also “an approved provider” with most of the Fully Integrated Dual Advantage (FIDA) healthcare providers launched by the state in January, which one of its aims is to allow more seniors to remain at home rather than relocate to assisted living facilities. “What is happening now is that seniors are desiring to stay at home rather than move,” Lee said. “That’s where their friends and family members are. More importantly, it’s also more economical than the other options. So basically, the public and the government are more accepting of it and trending in that direction.” While Alpha Care doesn’t offer direct financing, it tries to connect clients with various non-profit funding agencies in the area to help pay for modifications. Some insurance companies may defray some of the costs associated with modifications, depending on the coverage and type completed. Alpha Care serves clients across the five boroughs as well as in neighboring Long Island, Westchester County, Rockland, Yonkers, and New Jersey. Lee expects the company to be called upon more often in the years to come as the tri-state area’s senior population surges. “It’s a hugely growing market and we feel we’re ideally positioned for this opportunity,” he said. “We do try to help and basically do whatever is necessary to get the job done.” For more information about Alpha Care Supply, visit www.alphacaresupply.com. BUSINESS in the NEWS Howard Beach car dealer growing strong JYD Auto Leasing in Howard Beach recently celebrated its second anniversary of providing fine automobiles and service to the community. Brothers Richard and Angelo Borrello opened JYD Auto Leasing in March 2013 in response to Hurricane Sandy. They noticed that people were having trouble getting around after the storm damaged their cars and began leasing a few vehicles a month to Howard Beach residents. The company has grown to become a full-service auto broker, which provides rentals, an auto shop and will be adding motorcycle rentals in the near future. JYD Auto Leasing is different from other dealerships in that customers can choose any make, model and price range and work with JYD staff to compare vehicles. Since they do not keep inventory, JYD has a lower overhead cost and can provide customers with competitive pricing, said Network Relations Manager Kyle Roberts. Unlike other dealerships, that may try to persuade customers to BUSINESS in the NEWS lease a particular brand, JYD Auto Leasing has no vested interest in what clients choose. “We essentially just pass along the savings to the customers and that’s why we’ve been so successful to this point,” Roberts said. According to Roberts, JYD Auto Leasing had its best month on record in March and now leases an average of 100 cars a month. “The progress from the past two years has been outstanding, the numbers have been unbelievable and we just want to keep growing,” Roberts said. Their staff has increased from two – the Borrello brothers – to 25 employees. As a way to thank their customers, JYD Auto Leasing will be hosting a party on Sunday, May 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their location at 162-38 Cross Bay Blvd. There will be rides for kids, food, a car wash, a raffle and giveaways, exotic cars and a DJ will provide the entertainment.
