A couple from Flushing pleaded guilty to sex-trafficking charges on May 13, after forcing two women to perform lewd acts on customers at their Long Island spas for several months, according to the Nassau County District Attorney. According to Pix 11, Zhaowei Yin, 49, and his wife Shuwen Ai, 47, pleaded guilty on Friday to two counts of sex trafficking, a felony and two counts of promoting prostitution in the second degree. Parlor manager Li Fei Leng, a 33-year-old also from Flushing, pleaded guilty to the same charges on Tuesday. In September, The Queens Courier reported that an investigation revealed that the women would often be forced to sleep at the businesses. Yin and Ai never paid one of the victims for the time she worked at the parlor, and deducted wages from the other victim for occasional transportation home after work and for sleeping at the site, even if she was forced to stay there. The victims were required to perform sexual services on male customers at two parlors, which are now closed: Lucy’s Space at 300 Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead and Panda Foot Spa at 400 Franklin Ave. in Franklin Square. “The victims in this case were sexually exploited, psychologically abused and held against their wills,” said DA Madeline Singas of the Nassau County district. “The defendants preyed on vulnerable women and, in one case, allowed a victim to be physically assaulted by a customer.” All three defendants have waived their right to appeal and are mandated to register as sex offenders. Yin and Ai are expected to return back in court on June 21, and Leng is due back on June 20. The couple faces a maximum of 8 1/3 to 25 years in prison if convicted of the highest charge.
