The New York Hall of Science is offering all who are interested the opportunity to meet local astronomers, learn about current research, and view the night sky with a variety of telescopes at NYSCI After Dark: Rocket Park Astronomy. The Villalobos Brothers will be performing their special brand of mashup classical, jazz and indigenous Mexican music at Flushing Town Hall beginning at 8 p.m. Also joining the brothers will be founding member of the Mazarte Dance Company, Martha Zarate, to instruct a workshop on basic steps for traditional folk songs from the Veracruz region of Mexico. The workshop begins an hour before the performance at 7 p.m. and tickets are $16 with a discounted price of $10 for members and students. The Museum of the Moving Image will be hosting an opening night screening and reception for new Italian fi lm “Anna” this Friday at 7 p.m. The fi lm is a psychologically charged character study chronicling the downward spiral of the eponymous Anna as she contends with a criminal husband and three unruly children. Actress Valerina Golino, who plays Anna, will also be in attendance. Tickets are $12 for nonmembers and free for members. The Museum of the Moving Image can be found at 36-01 35th Ave. in Astoria. SATURDAY, MAY 7 Come have fun while you fulfi ll your environmental duty this Saturday at the Annual Flushing Bay Shoreline Cleanup. The cleanup will be held at Pier One of the World’s Fair Marina from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and, of course, participation is free. During the cleanup you will get to ride in the Empire Dragon paddle boat while you learn about green infrastructure initiatives to restore the city’s waterways. The World’s Fair Marina is located across Northern Boulevard from Citi Field in Flushing. This Saturday at the Knockdown Center electronic composers Morton Subotnick and Joan La Barbara will be performing two installation/ performances titled “Song” (2016) and “CYCLONE” (1977). “CYCLONE” was originally a quadrophonic sound performance last performed at PS1 in 1977. Admission is $15 and the show goes from 6 to 10 p.m. The Knockdown Center can be found at 52-19 Flushing Ave. in Maspeth. Come learn about artist-initiated residencies this Saturday at the Queens Museum. This 3 to 5 p.m. panel will feature artists like Galeria Perdida and Stephano Espinoza speaking about how they organized their residences as both artists and facilitators, their motives in developing spaces for artists by artists, and the role these play in developing networks and alternative spaces for artists to organize and create. The panel is a part of the museum’s Open A.I.R. Artists Service Program. The Queens Museum can be found in the New York City Building of Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Corona. The Five Boroughs Music Festival presents mixed-period chamber music ensemble The Colonials at Flushing Town Hall beginning at 3 p.m. As part of their innovative “The Trout Variations” program, they will perform six modern takes on Schubert’s famous theme.
