46 The Queens Courier • business • march 28, 2013 FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.queenscourier.com business (continued from page 44) AgeWell plan is how this additional coverage will affect current Medicare or Medicaid benefits. In reality, AgeWell actually improves one’s healthcare coverage and service options without compromising any regular Medicare or Medicaid benefits. AgeWell customers receive the same types of services that Medicare and Medicaid provide with the added benefit of having their care coordinated by an expert health care professional. If a particular Medicaid or Medicare service is not covered by AgeWell, patients can still receive that service outside of AgeWell by simply using their Medicare or Medicaid card. In certain cases, it may become necessary for a patient to enter into nursing home care. In these instances, a Care Manager will work with the individual and anyone else involved in his or her care to ensure that he or she is placed in an in-network participating facility. This service is available to patients eligible for institutional Medicaid. “We want to educate members on the issues surrounding their need for care, and develop a relationship with them,” said Buonocore-Rut. To ensure that New Yorkers of every background and ethnicity are able to take advantage of all that AgeWell has to offer, every effort is made to accommodate non-English speakers. AgeWell employs both bilingual staffers and providers. In addition, all of the organization’s written materials are available in several languages, and oral interpretation services can be arranged free of charge. AgeWell New York strives to make the rights of its members a top priority so that every person in its network is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. Care Managers are available to assist every patient in understanding and exercising their rights. Not only do AgeWell members have the right to receive timely care for the medical services they qualify for, but they are also entitled to confidentiality of their medical records and privacy while being treated. Members have the right to receive all available information about their diagnosis, treatment options, and alternatives prior to giving their consent to begin treatment. Members are encouraged to take part in discussions and decisions regarding their health care plan, which includes being informed of the medical consequences of those decisions and having the right to refuse treatment. For more information on the AgeWell network, covered services, and becoming a member, visit agewellnewyork.com.
