The Maspeth senior also plays third base for the school’s varsity baseball team and tutors fourth graders two days a week at a local parish. “He’s like a role model. I never really hand in anything late. I make sure that comes first,” he said. Ammirati is also a member of the National Honor Society, a prestigious recognition program for high school students in the country. Scholars must demonstrate excellence in leadership, service, character and academics to be inducted. “It involves a lot of work. I have to really dedicate myself to learning in every class. I try to lead by example,” said the star teen. “I worked hard. I studied. I feel like my hard work has paid off.” Mary Anne Kelleher, the school’s guidance counselor, said Ammirati was a natural leader and more mature than most students she meets. He attends Holy Cross on a Presidential Scholarship and has made the Principal’s List every quarter so far. “He just gets it done,” she said. “He takes everything in stride. He does his work and he makes everything look so simple.” Ammirati will be attending Belhaven University in Mississippi in the fall. The Belhaven Blazer plans to study business while playing baseball for the university. “I would like to take that all the way,” he said. “I guess we’ll see how it works out.” Photo Courtesy of Holy Cross High School Daniel Ammirati, of Maspeth, will graduate from Holy Cross High School with a beyond perfect score.
