34 The Queens Courier • MARCH 27, 2014 for breaking news visit www.queenscourier.com Event proves ‘Beauty changes lives’ The first annual “Beauty Changes Lives” event was hosted by Lois Christie, president and owner of Christie and Co. Salon & Spa, and her team of make-up artists, hairdressers and nail technicians. The event was also hosted by Victoria Schneps, president, CEO and publisher of The Queens Courier. Christie and her team donated their time and talents for the makeover event held at Vivaldi Ristorante at 201-10 Cross Island Pkwy, which provided cocktails and food for the night that raised $2,000 to benefit Life’s WORC. “Every woman got a chance to network and walk away with a goody bag of hair products and nail products,” Schneps said. “Everybody felt their life was happier after they left.” Over 85 women were treated to demonstrations and makeovers by celebrity make-up artist Lori Neapolitan and makeup artists from team Christie – Marchelle, Elena, Diana, and Adesa. Hairdressers Joyce, Toni and Enza styled hair for the event. Celebrating the new nail salon, manager Ellis and her team did nails and demonstrated the new glitter gels that are trending this spring. The nail department emphasized the importance of sterilization in nail care and explained why at Christie and Co. Salon & Spa they focus on salon “sterilization” and “single-use disposable” files along with “autoclaved” tools. Together with expanding the department, services have been upgraded to include sterilized, individually packaged tools which go far beyond all state requirements. Single-use disposable files and buffers are packaged individually for each of Christie and Co. Salon & Spa clients and are thrown away at the end of each service. Clippers and pushers are sterilized in autoclaves, which are equipment used by doctors and dentists to sterilize their tools. Everyone felt and looked better with some great tips from the pros of Christie Salon & Spa. Goody bags were filled with products from Bumble and Bumble and Kiss Nails. Everyone received a $10 gift card for services at Christie and Co. Salon & Spa and a $10 gift card from Ruby and Jenna, a new boutique in the Bay Terrace Shopping Center. Christie then also asked everyone to donate another $10 and she gave an additional $500 gift card to the lucky winner of a personal make-over with Lois Christie and team. Overall, the night raised $2,000 for Life’s WORC and next year’s goal is being set at $10,000. “It was so much fun. Our staff enjoyed helping women in the work force who have little time to look good and everyone felt great,” Christie said.
