Aof Arnie Rabinowitz s usual, the Men’s Club had
a busy September, highlighted
by a presentation by
Author, Teacher and Forensic Scientist
Linda Marie Frank. She is the
Author of the Annie Tillery Mystery
Series and taught Forensic Science
at Hofstra and Adelphi Universities.
At our September 13 meeting, she
gave a lucid presentation of what
DNA is composed of leading into a
discussion several famous murder
cases where DNA was used and
misused.
Did you know, it was finally
concluded after his death that Sam
Sheppard was innocent, the Boston
Strangler committed his crimes, and
O.J. Simpson was clearly guilty, but
much of the DNA evidence was
tampered with by the police and
detectives on the case and could
not be used? The famous glove was
bloodstained and could not possibly
fit (“If it doesn’t fit, you must
acquit”). An enthusiastic Q and A
followed, making for an interesting
evening.
Other activities during the month
included two current events discussions,
an excellent Portuguese
luncheon at Cafe Sport on Hillside
Avenue in Williston Park, and
a movie night during which the
classic Oliver Stone film “Wall
Street” was presented, followed
by a discussion led by Ron Levin.
The month was highlighted by our
Member/Guest Annual Dinner/
Dance at The Swan Club in Roslyn,
which was attended by 86 members
and guests. We ate, danced, drank
and had a wonderful evening.
October also portends to
being a busy month. We have a
Members-Only luncheon at The
Jolly Fisherman on October 11;
a Member/Guest dinner at La
Baraka on October 25, current
events meetings on October 8 and
22; and a trip to Mohegan Sun
on October 29. And of course,
there is BINGO on October 28.
The highlight will be Men’s Club
meeting on October 11, which will
feature Historical Playwright Sal
St. George, who will present “The
Early Years of Mel Brooks,” the
famous comedian.
