2nd annual Dîner en Blanc a
tremendous success

Given the hurried nature
of last year’s inaugural
“White Dinner,” which
was hustled together with a mere
few weeks to spare; then transferred
at the last moment from an
al fresco to and indoor event due
to impending inclement weather,
one could certainly forgive this
year’s architects if their second
foray in the decades-old international
event showed some imperfections.
But the sophomore
outing held on Monday evening,
September 3, ran like a well-oiled
machine, succeeding in the fashion
of a seasoned affair. So much
so, one would be hard-pressed to
cite where improvements could
be made.
Swathed in white, ten dozen
attendees gathered in the Country
Club reception area a half hour
before the scheduled dinner’s
opening. Some participants, whose
closets were starved of ivory finery,
even went so far as to spend the
day shopping for a white outfit to
wear. Meanwhile, Country Club
Manager Mary Anne and her Aidede
Camps decked the VIP Room
with two rows of tables. Draped in
white linen, they ran the length of
the room, like the opulent dining
room of Old World royalty in a
cinematic period drama. Smaller,
standing tables, embraced in white,
dotted the center aisle, completing
the tableau. In the tradition of the
event, diners brought their own
repasts and liquid refreshment with
more than enough to share among
the throng.
The laughter and camaraderie
began even before the doors opened
and never let up, extending beyond
the scheduled three hours, with a

DJ and dueling emcees, keeping the
partiers partying throughout the
night. Kudos to Phyllis Goldstein,
Evelyn Pinsky, June Schwarz, and
Mary Anne and her intrepid crew
for a wonderful night. Start getting
your white wardrobes ready for Le
Troisieme Année Dîner en Blanc
in 2019.
