Hail to the Chiefs! Part 1: Gloria’s Story
Gloria Beck and Chickie
Kaufman are the
co-presidents of
the Women’s Club. Though
neither one is a stranger to
hard work and dedication,
in this newspaper issue and
the next one, a little background
on their contributions
to our community
will be spotlighted.
Gloria Beck may be one
of the busiest people in the
Towers. In addition to presidential
duties, Gloria has been the program
planner since the club’s inception
six years ago. Planning monthly
lectures, assorted activities
and workshops keep members
busy sharing ideas
and talents. Gloria manages
social aspects of the
group as a springboard for
other involvement such as
volunteerism, mentoring,
and charity work. From a
lecture by James Coll on
the Constitution to a fun
game of Bingo, Gloria
plans and implements a
myriad of programs and holidays
parties as well. Always with a smile!
This amazing program planner
gives members an opportunity to
remain vibrant and continue to use
time in meaningful way. Keeping
the club apolitical, she and co-president
Chickie Kaufman maintain
interlocking circles with different
groups and units to keep things
running smoothly. Everything from
intelligent lectures to a holiday party
at Towers on the Green to the
Cinema Club review on Channel
995 is carefully planned to provide
meaningful and enriching involvement.
Under this positive leadership,
their energy is an example of
their commitment.
Two to three times a year, Gloria
and her committee sponsor special
events at Towers on the Green.
Cultural diversity is celebrated by
having different themes and decorations
that enhance the event.
Co-President Chickie Kaufman’s
creativity puts a special stamp on
these evenings and together, their
efforts give much pleasure and
enjoyment to all Women’s Club
members who participate. They are
an unbeatable team. Next month - a
more up-close and personal look
at co-president Chickie Kaufman.

Verse by Vicki
“THEY’RE BACK!!!!!!”
Where are we?
You have to ask?
Just put on
Your trusty mask.
Here we are,
No more elevator crowd
Only three at a time,
So things are not too loud.
Here we are,
Back where we used ta.
Now we are told,
We need a vaccine booster.
We’ll keep up with Zoom,
Speakers are our goal.
We’ll listen to Kenrick,
And more of James Coll.
Good times come
And go in a flash.
Hoping we can still have,
Supper and Bingo Bash.
Talks to be planned,
Maybe not with Arsenio.
But we’ve learned a-plenty,
From Marilyn Carminio.
International night’s fun,
Italian or Greek,
To please you all…
That’s what we seek.
Klezmer and Karaoke too,
We keep you in high tech.
All the hard work of one
Her name is Gloria Beck.
Our business side well run,
Though things can get so tricky,
Dues and special projects too,
Handled so well by Co-Pres.
Chickie.
Stay with us,
Stay in the hub.
Keep having fun,
With the Women’s Club!

The Lunch Bunch Crunch On Thursday, July 29, the
Lunch Bunch Committee
of the Women’s Club held a
tent luncheon for new members and
other interested women to get to
know the club a little better. Under
the leadership of Eva Kessner and
Marilyn Goldberg, the luncheon
was the largest one ever. At least 15
news residents who had moved in
during the pandemic attended.
The tent was adorned with tables
filled with favors, food and friends.
Burgers, sandwiches, salads and
other luncheon fare were shared,
along with the focus on introductions
and making new friendships.
Pens and pads were provided for
people to write down names and
numbers. Participants enthusiastically
seized the opportunity to meet
and connect with others in this
friendly environment. Welcoming
remarks were made by co-chairs
Eva Kessner and Marilyn Goldberg.
Co-president Gloria Beck spoke
about the future plans of the club
including several subsidized events.
Committee member Selma
Baumgarten passed around a signup
sheet for people looking for
card games, which was filled with
signatures. Through this effort, a
new program is in the works called
“Games for Dames” where members
will have a chance to form
card game activities on a regular
basis. Special thanks to Chickie
Kaufman and Selma Baumgarten
for their additional efforts.
The next Lunch Bunch will be
scheduled for October. Look for
information in this newspaper.
What a friendly lunch bunch!

CINEMA CLUB:
HOW BEGUILING!
Monday, September 27,
4 pm – Channel 995
Movie reviewers Vicki
Mazel and Dr. Nurit
Israeli will discuss
the 2017 film “The Beguiled”
starring Nicole Kidman and Colin
Farrell. Directed by noted filmmaker
Sofia Coppola, she won Best Director
at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival for the
film. This was the first time in
50 years that a woman won
the award.
Coppola also wrote the
screenplay, which unfolds
during the Civil War when
an injured Union soldier
deserts his unit and seeks
refuge at an all-female
boarding school and rivalries develop
for his affection. We look forward
to an interesting program on this
special movie.
