16 North Shore Towers Courier n July 2016 NET WORTH BY LEO TUJAK An open tennis meeting for anyone interested was held at the Towers Restaurant on Sunday morning, May 22nd, in conjunction with the Tennis Club’s Sunday morning brunch. Attended by about 50 people, some of the doings for the season were presented and discussed. The discussion led by board members was lively, and centered on the costs for various activities. In response to the concerns expressed, the menu for the July 4th BBQ was revised to lower expenses. The Memorial Day Tournament was held on Sunday, May 29th. The theme, thought up by our tennis pro Rick Bates, was politics. Teams represented either Hilary Clinton or Bernie Sanders, earning points proportionally in accordance to the number of delegates available for each state. For example, if the match was 4–0 shutout, the winners received the full amount of delegates for that state. Larger states with more delegates garnered bigger wins. The winning team included Mark Eisenstein, Annelies Karp, Werner Nass, Carol Meyerson, Marilyn Saltzman, Fred Berg, June Stelbaum, Jerry Grossman and Lee Hiller, beating out the competition with a score of 1459 vs. 1168 delegates for the runner-up. The tournament was followed by a luncheon, held in the men’s card room, featuring heroes, salads, chips, soft drinks, coffee and tea, and dessert, catered by the VIP Room. Last year’s pizza party was a great success and this year’s, held in the men’s card room, on Wednesday, June 15, proved equally so. July 4th’s ’s Independence Day tournament, pitting Hillary against the Republican nominee, Donald Trump— just like in real life—will be held on Sunday, July 3rd, followed by a BBQ on the VIP Room patio weather permitting; otherwise, it will be held indoors, consisting of hamburgers, franks, chicken, salads, sodas, coffee and tea, and dessert. I’m sure that the players are looking forward to both the tournament and BBQ.
