North Shore Towers Courier n April 2014 3 NST springs forward BY VICTOR G. MIMONI Spring is blooming for North Shore Towers – with fresh new enhancements to the luxury lifestyle at the city’s premier co-op complex. Fresh is the operative word, with a brand new paint job, carpeting and enhanced lighting in the health club exercise room making for a brighter more enjoyable experience. “We care about our clients,” said personal trainer Heidi Fischler, a member of the staff since 2008. “We have such a good relationship with our clientele, helping them enhance their range of motion, stamina and strength. We help more active clients get the full benefit of the facilities – more than just telling them what machine to sit on.” For older residents, “We help them maintain their recognizable selves, so they can enjoy all the amenities that North Shore Towers has to offer.” For trainer Dakota Gangi, who joined the staff last year, working at the Towers Country Club is a pleasure. “Everyone is so appreciative, it makes you want to do your best,” he said, before going off to prepare one of the numerous state of the art exercise machines for his next appointment. Those who might work up an appetite getting in their workouts will be please to know that the VIP room is firing up for spring with new menu items and expanded features, according to manager Dennis Pariti. “We’re looking forward to another great season,” he said, with a nod to assistant manager Reina Lemus. “Our new items are hot and selling well.” Among the hot (and cold) new offerings are baby spinach with grilled chicken pizza, and super-Italian sausage with broccoli rabe panini. A “Black and Blue” burger with Louisiana-style blackened spice and Gorgonzola sounds like a sure-fire winner, along with Sliced flank steak with corn, onion and gorgonzola or a crab meat salad sandwich. Happy hour is back at the VIP room and the addition of a top of the line new sound console promises to make events even more enjoyable, Pariti promises. Also on the menu is the longawaited renovation of the VIP room kitchen, which will enable the staff to keep the customer satisfied with faster service and wider selections – all ready to go once the city finally issues the permits. The biggest renovation has to be the jewel of Towers’ amenities, the par 70 golf course, especially after such a brutal winter, according to resident golf pro Bob Guido. “This was a tough one; the superintendent and the staff have had their work cut out for them,” he said admiringly. Even though the course is opening about two weeks later than usual due to heavy snows, golfers have a lot to look forward to. “Last winter we began a nineyear program to overhaul the entire course,” he explained. “We did two holes last year and another two this year.” The goal, Guido explained is not only enhancing the esthetic experience, but also to make the course, at nearly 6,000 yards, “more challenging for the skilled golfer and fairer for the weaker players.” In order to do this, “We’ve worked on placement of the tee boxes, and bunkers.” One idea is to put the bunkers further apart in the range where the average duffer would hit the ball, closer together at the longer ranges, thereby giving a more fulfilling game experience. “We’re hoping to attract more residents to play the game, as well as draw more outside golfers who will get to see why living here is so desirable,” Guido said. The board of directors and management aren’t sitting on their laurels when it comes to keeping NST at the top of its game. A full-scale renovation of the Movie Theater is on the drawing board. “It’s in the planning stages. We’re going to bring the movie theatre up to state of the art,” said General Manager Glen Kotowski, “We’re looking at the latest in digital projection, improved sound and new seating – we’d like to expand the stage area so that we can do shows – it’s going to be like brand new, right down to scrubbing the ductwork.” With the latest and greatest in the gym, on the golf course and behind the VIP room counter, the hits will just keep coming to North Shore Towers.
