16 North Shore Towers Courier n April 2014 BY VICTOR G. MIMONI On a cold St. Patrick’s evening, an audience was whisked from the Country Club VIP room in the Towers of North Shore to the walls of Slane Castle in County Meath, Ireland for a magical performance by Celtic Woman. “A New Journey,” the title of the second concert performance of the group, recorded live as a 93-minute made-for-TV program, released in early December of 2006. It was also the title of the group’s second album, appearing the following January 30 – which vaulted up the charts to go double platinum within three months. The video of the concert went gold the same day. The group was comprised for this performance by vocalists Hayley Westenra, Chloë Agnew, Órla Fallon, Lisa Kelly and Méav Ní Mhaolchatha and with Máiréad Nesbitt on violin and Órla Fallon on harp – going by Hayley and the mystical names Water, Earth, Fire, Moon and Air, respectively. Nesbitt flies like the moon in the evening sky – leaping through the air without missing a note on her violin, to the delight of the audience. Providing a musical backdrop as powerful and evocative as the stone castle scene, David Downes conducts the Irish Film Orchestra with a supporting chorus. The songs range from powerful Gaelic tunes with unpronounceable names to the instantly recognizable classics like “Beyond the Sea” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” performed in breathtaking a capella harmony. On a day when everyone is Irish if they want to be, Towers Residents got a taste of just how intoxicating music can be, thanks to Celtic Woman.
