 “Unbelievable!”
 “Wow!”
 “How does he do that?”
 These and similar comments
were heard around the room on
February 8, as our members and
 guests were entertained by David
 Lawrence, a mind reader/magician,
  who enthralled us with his
 expertise. Except for one magic
 trick, the program involved audience
 participation, which is what
 happens when you read minds.
 Sometimes his mind reading
 involved the participation of just
 one person, sometimes a married
couple and sometimes a few people.
For example, one member of the
audience was asked to write down
on a piece of paper the name of a
friend. At the same time, another
 participant was asked to write
down the name of a childhood pet,
while a third participant was asked
to draw a picture. While they were
 doing this, David wrote something
on three different pieces of paper.
When David revealed what he had
written, there was the name of the
friend, the name of the pet and a
 replica of the drawing.
Now if only David could read
what the stock market would be
 doing…
 Okay all you frustrated Bing
Crosbys out there, it’s time to
warm up those pipes again. Our
next meeting on March 8 will be
 Karaoke Night and once again
Russell Craig will be our host.
Russell is best known as New
 York City’s most popular Karaoke
Host, MC and DJ. He is widely
 recognized as a multitalented, charismatic
 and versatile singer and has
 been a highly successful entertainer
for more than 25 years. Russell has
 been providing his unique brand
 of family friendly DJ/MC/Karaoke
 and live entertainment, performing
to audiences of every age, group
 and cultural background, practically
 every day. Representing his own
 company, ReQestMusic and New
Media, he is dedicated to satisfying
the entertainment needs of a most
 diverse clientele.
At the January meeting of the
 Current Events Group, Ralph
Edwards presented a long list of
 topics which could be discussed.
 Consequently, at our February
 meeting, again led by Edwards,
 many topics were touched upon,
some briefly and others in depth.
It was almost like a stream of consciousness—
 most informative and
 most interesting. News fresh today,
such as the shooting down of an
Israeli jet, and as old as Churchill
 and Clement Atlee’s politics, were
 discussed. Other topics included
 moving our embassy to Jerusalem,
 Eleanor Roosevelt’s dislike of
 Churchill, the secret affairs of
 our presidents, the conspiracies
 surrounding the Kennedy assassinations,
  how health insurers determine
 their billing, the “MeToo”
 Movement, the casting couch
mentality, how the author of Fire
and Fury got his material, and why
 people hate certain politicians and
hold their nose when entering the
voting booth. As always, we left the
 meeting a little more knowledgeable
 and a lot more aware.
 In our never-ending search for
 gustatory excellence, we have
recently visited, or will shortly visit,
 several restaurants including Café
 Giardino, Heart of Portugal, Pearl
 East, and Mitzumi Asian American
 Buffet in Little Neck.
By far and away, the most exciting
event this month was our Super
Bowl party at the Coleridge Lounge,
or as one might call it: “The Battle
of the Missed PATS.” The game
really was Super, the food and
 drinks catered by Iavarone Bros.
were plentiful and a few members
 were monetarily enriched.
 Our Men’s Club has reached
another milestone. As of this writing,
  we now have 135 members.
 Breakfasts at Buffy’s every Tuesday,
Wednesday and Fridays at 9 a.m.
or earlier, if you wish, continue
to be well attended. And the coffee—
 which the waiters can’t stop
pouring—is free, if you order the
 specials.
Let’s not forget BINGO on the
last Sunday in the month at 7:30
 Mind Reader David Lawrence
p.m. in the large cardroom at the
lower level. All are welcome. Bring
 a friend or a few.
