2012 Year Review A LOOK BACK It’s never too late to take a look back, and the year 2012 was another great one for the North Shore Towers, filled with not only social events, concerts, lectures and laughs, but also Board and budget successes. Let’s look back and reflect on the year that was filled with life and luck. BY MAGGIE HAYES Towers residents welcomed a new courtesy bus to take residents to off-site locations such as Roosevelt Field Mall, Source Mall The Towers once again hosted the L1 Challenger United States Tennis Association (USTA) junior tournament on a sunny, summer day. Competitors aged in groups 12, 14, 16 and 18 battled it out with hopes of taking home a championship trophy as family members, friends and Towers residents gathered to watch. The Towers Board held one of their many open meetings in October to inform residents of the past year’s highlights and give reports from each committee. Board President Bob Ricken noted that for the first time in NST history, there were more mandatory Club memberships than apartments, which contributed to revenue boosts, allowing no maintenance and Club due increases for three consecutive years. The Towers is the only co-op in New York City to retain this fete, Ricken said. Irish step dancers from the Donny School of Irish Step Dancing dazzled residents with jigs, reels and traditional horn pipe dances. Aged 7 to 22, these kids traveled around the country for competition, but not without stopping at the Towers. and other local shopping areas. North Shore Towers Courier n February 2013 17
