Trailblazing Trendsetters for More than Forty Years
nuBest Salon and Spa is where trends start
And it’s been that way for
the last 45 years, ever since
this full-service salon and
spa opened its doors at its first
and only location at 1482 Northern
Boulevard in Manhasset.
The year was 1973 -- an exciting
time for beauty and hair in a
decade that featured some of
history’s most iconic hairstyles: the
Shag; the Wedge-cut; the Afro; the
Long Center-Part and the Farrah
Fawcett flip.
“We’ve always been on the pulse
of what’s trending in fashion
and beauty,” says nuBest owner
Michael Mazzei, who remembers
the Goldie Hawn Pixie as the
hairstyle everyone wanted.
For the last four decades, nuBest
has established itself as one of the
leading salons on Long Island, with
a staff of more than 125 beauty
professionals offering an array
of innovative and customized
services including: haircuts, styling
and color, specialty hair treatments
(yes, the perm is “in” again),
makeup, skincare and various spa
services.
In fact, nuBest has always managed
to generate a buzz in and out of the
salon with Mazzei at the helm.
“We’ve created a culture that
emphasizes exceptional service
with unparalleled quality,” says
Mazzei, whose salon has graced
the pages of some of the country’s
top beauty and fashion magazines
and appeared on the big screen
in 1985 in the movie Desperately
Seeking Susan.
Even with an A-list clientele that
includes celebrities, Hollywood
industry insiders and fashion
editors, everyone at nuBest gets
the star treatment. “Bringing in
big names isn’t necessarily the
endgame,” says Mazzei. “My goal
has always been consistent: to
make every single
client feel like the
best version of
themselves.”
Mazzei is not only
an accomplished
businessman, but
a trendsetter and
visionary. With his
collaborator and
friend Leland Hirsch,
Mazzei launched
ARTec Worldwide, an
innovative global hair
care brand that was
ultimately purchased by L’Oreal in
2002.
nuBest is also known for its
philanthropic endeavors and
dedication to the community.
Since its beginning, it has teamed
up with local and global charities
to support and promote awareness
of many different worthwhile
causes.
“I am so proud of
what my family and
I have been able to
achieve with nuBest
-- we have created
a community for
our clients, with the
help of some of New
York’s best stylists,”
says Mazzei. ”It has
been an incredible
experience to
witness firsthand
how the salon has
evolved over the
nubest Owner Michael Mazzei
years. Celebrating nuBest’s 45th
anniversary feels like a dream.”
Mazzei looks forward to the future
of nuBest Salon and Spa as led by
the next generation of the Mazzei
family -- Jamie Mazzei, Vincent
Cascio, and Christian Fleres
-- as they carry on the salon’s
reputation for setting trends and
providing superior service.
