What is Project SEARCH®?
Medford Multicare Center For
Living Project SEARCH® is concluding
its fifth year with a great
group of seven talented interns.
Project SEARCH® is a transitional
school-to-work program through
Eastern Suffolk BOCES, in partnership
with ACCES-VR and Abilities,
Inc., for students with developmental
disabilities in their last year of
high school. The program teaches
students employability skills. The
goal of Project SEARCH® is competitive
employment. Students will
tell you that they joined Project
SEARCH® for various reasons such
as “I want to work and meet people”
or “I want to be independent.”
Medford Multicare
Center for Living is a
320-bed rehabilitation
and skilled nursing
facility that hosts
the program, providing
each intern the
opportunity to complete
three, tenweek
internships.
Interns have the
support from a staff
mentor, teacher, teacher assistant,
and job coach throughout each
rotation.
Students have the opportunity to
choose from the following internship
sites: Nursing Concierge,

Interns Reflect “We really liked working with
staff and residents and learning transferable skills
that can be applied to the jobs we are seeking after
graduation. We’ve learned a variety of skills, as well
as how to be independent and confident.”
