TLETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER
he reason April showers bring May flowers
is because the world is ready to celebrate
the rebirth of the earth and to celebrate
Mother’s Day, honoring the matriarchs
who give us the gift of life.
It’s the least we can do, considering the
juggling act of managing home, children, family and
mates while doling out all that motherly love — often while
simultaneously holding down careers or multiple jobs, and
some as single mothers.
Our gift to the mothers of Long Island is this issue dedicated
to them. Gracing this month’s cover is Joy Mangano, the
Home Shopping Network star and mother of more than 100
inventions, most notably her famed Miracle Mop. We also
have a Mother’s Day gift guide, for those looking for fresh
ideas on what to get mom.
In this issue you’ll also find a preview of our Long Island
Power Women in Business awards. We hope you’ll join us
and network with these powerful women at our remarkable
and unique event May 9 at Leonard’s Palazzo in Great Neck.
And be sure to check out the
many beautiful photos from
our 15th annual Power List
event that honored Long
Island’s most influential
leaders, held at The Mansion
at Oyster Bay.
Also in this issue, we put the
spotlight on two critical issues
on our Island: The opioid
crisis and the Hempstead
schools, which have one of the
graduation rates in the nation!
Lastly, it’s finally time to enjoy the beach. Enjoy our
destination column on all the City of Long Beach has to
offer — a must-read.
Happy Mother’s Day!
