The video was commissioned by the Museum. “The new work places the duo’s signature text-based animations set to an original jazz score on a noirish, continuous black-and-white shot of urban traffic,” according to a Museum description. The pieces in this installation range in variety from drawing, painting, printmaking to photography. “Working on paper has expanded from preparatory sketches for painting or sculpture to now being respected artwork unto itself,” according to a gallery description. SOCRATES SCULPTURE PARK 32-01 Vernon Blvd., Long Island City 718-956-1819 “Scarecrow” On view through August 3 Scarecrow is a new site-specific installation by artist Zilvinas Kempinas, his first major outdoor installation in the United States, and the largest installation in Socrates Sculpture Park’s 28-year history. The sculpture is a 250-foot-long, thirteen-foot high kinetic pathway composed of 200 stainless steel, mirrored poles connecting energetic slopes of silver Mylar ribbon overhead. “Scarecrow” will reflect its surrounding environment and making it continuously change throughout the exhibition.
