VARIETY at theFLEA With the LIC Flea & Food and Astoria Flea & Food at Kaufman Astoria Studios on a roll this season, every month the LIC Courier will profile a group of new and returning vendors. Huikai Get your sushi and Japanese food fix at the LIC and Astoria Flea markets, where you can find Huikai. “My sushi is different than others. They are special sushi. My rolls are very fancy,” said Gary Chen, owner of Huikai and longtime sushi chef. He uses soybean paper rather than seaweed to wrap the sushi. Right now, he uses green soybean paper, but hopes to use other colors of paper in the future such as pink and yellow. All of his sushi is cooked, and vegetables are available at the stand as well. Town Peddlers Town Peddlers can be found at the LIC Flea on Saturdays and the Astoria Flea on Sundays and sets up two different booths: one for vintage clothing and accessories, and another for antiques and collectables. (This weekend, they will only be selling their vintage clothing, but they will go back to both stands after that). Town Peddlers has been in the business for 25 years and started at the LIC Flea last year in the very beginning. Al Finnie, co-owner of Town Peddlers with his wife, Joellen, said that he gave the LIC Flea a try and liked it and the area. With the addition of the Astoria Flea at Kaufman Astoria Studios, the business now has a broader audience in Queens.
